Smt. Malini Parthasarathy said Christianity was established in India in the early years of Christian Era by Apostle of Christ St. Thomas. So, it is not alien to India.
The Hindu Group Chairperson and Editorial Director Smt. Malini Parthasarathy Sunday (December 26) peddled fake news about St. Thomas.
She said Apostle of Christ St. Thomas had visited India in the early years of Christian Era and established Christianity. So, Christianity is not alien to India. She also claimed that there is demonstrable evidence for this.
“With demonstrable evidence that the Apostles of Christ, St Thomas whose remains are buried in Madras and St Bartholomew had visited India and established Christianity here in the early years of the Christian Era, how is it alright to portray Christianity as alien to India?”, she posted on social media platform Twitter on Sunday (December 26).
In September 2006, Pope Benedict XVI himself had said that St. Thomas did not visit South India.
In an address to the faithfuls on September 27, 2006, in Vatican, Pope Benedict XVI said that St. Thomas evangelised Syria and Persian and proceeded to Western India from where Christianity reached South India.
The significance of the statement was that St. Thomas himself never visited South India and was confined to western front (today’s Pakistan).
Many raised protests on different social media platforms.
Supreme Court lawyer J Sai Deepak said, “Ppl like her refute demonstrable evidence of destruction of Temples but believe Christianity is one of d oldest religions of India. And this is the editor of The Hindu. Textbook example of colonialised elites who celebrate and legitimise the genocide of Bharat’s faith systems.”
TV Mohandas Pai, chairman of Manipal Global Education, criticised Smt. Parthasarathy for peddling fake news and asked her what evidence she has about St. Thomas’ South India visit.
“When the @Pontifex and @VaticanNews itself has said that it was very doubtful St Thomas came to Madras, what evidence do you @MaliniP have than the myth about this? @jsaideepak @ARanganathan72 Any evidence since you are a very reputed editor of @the_hindu @MRVChennai”, Shri Pai posted on Twitter.
Scientist Dr. A Ranganathan posted on Twitter “St. Thomas had visited South India. The Hindu cropped out Defence Minister Parrikar’s notings on a letter to make him look guilty of corruption. The Hindu outed Bofors whistleblower’s name to the Rajiv Gandhi govt. Only one of these three statements is factually incorrect.”
In February 2019, when the Rafale deal controversy was manufactured by the Opposition, then Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu, N Ram, published stories in his newspaper clipping out Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s response, to make the corruption accusation look genuine.
