Security forces foil terror attack in Manipur; sieze explosives

Imphal: Security forces successfully foiled an attempt of a deadly strike by terrorists in Manipur.

At least five insurgents were apprehended in five operations by the Assam Rifles at different places in Manipur, AR sources said. The Somsai Battalion of the Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) on Friday stated that it has foiled a “terrorist strike” by arresting a terrorist carrying two kilograms of explosive which is used for making IEDs, near Ukhrul.

Based on specific inputs, troops of Assam Rifles launched an operation leading to the capture of the terrorist, IGAR (South) stated in a release.

It stated that the apprehended individual was carrying the explosive, one remote control and batteries for making IEDs which he was planning to plant in Ukhrul to probably target the civilians.

The apprehended individual along with recovered explosives was handed over to Lamlai police station for further legal proceedings, it added.

 

In another case, the Assam Rifles in a joint operation with the Manipur police, in four different operations, apprehended two insurgents of KCP(N), one insurgent of PREPAK(PRO) and one overground militant of a UG insurgent outfit in Bishnupur, Imphal West and Ukhrul districts on December 14, 15 and 15 respectively, it stated. 

During the operations, one hand grenade was also recovered from one of the KCP(N) insurgents from the Bishnupur market, it stated, adding that the insurgents were handed over to Manipur police for further investigation.
