PM Modi said people prefer politics of good governance. BJP president J P Nadda termed the win as a win for nationalist force and development agenda. Mamata Banerjee led TMC, who tried to bring west Bengals politics to Tripura, managed to win only one seat.

Agartala: Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauded the thumping win of the ruling BJP in the local body election in Tripura. PM Modi congratulated chief minister Biplab Kumar Dev and the state unit of the BJP. "I would like to applaud the @BJP4Tripura Karyakartas who worked tirelessly on the ground and served people. Under the leadership of Shri Biplab Deb Ji, the State Government has been at the forefront of many initiatives, which the people have duly blessed," he tweeted.

In another tweet, PM Modi said, "The people of Tripura have given a clear message – that they prefer politics of good governance. I would like to thank them for the unequivocal support to @BJP4Tripura. These blessings give us greater strength to work for the welfare of each and every person in Tripura."

BJP's National president J P Nadda said the massive win of BJP in the local body elections in Tripura is the win for nationalist forces and development agendas. The divisive forces and the people who did the politics of violence and defamed Tripura were outrightly rejected by the people of the state, and they have been given the mandate for development.

It is worth mentioning that BJP has swept the civic polls in Tripura, bagging 217 of 222 seats on which elections were held on November 25. The CPM has won three seats, and the regional party TIPRA Motha won one seat. The people of Tripura outrightly rejected the TMC, which had tried to lure the voters of Tripura with divisive politics. Mamata Banerjee led TMC, who tried to bring west Bengals politics to Tripura, managed to win only one seat.

Of the 334 total seats-including, AMC with 51 wards, 13 municipal councils, and six Nagar panchayats-the BJP has won 329, having been elected unopposed in 112 seats earlier. Polling took place on November 25 for 222 seats. The Agartala Municipal Corporation has become opponent less, with all 51 wards going to the BJP.

CPM won one seat each in Ambassa Nagar Panchayat in Dhalai District, Panisagar Nagar Panchayat in North district, and Kailashahar Municipal Council in Unakoti district. The Trinamool won one seat in Ambasa. Regional party, Tipra Motha, has also won one seat in Ambasa.

CM Biplab Kumar Dev thanked the people of the state for showing their faith in BJP. He said, " Much gratitude to all people of state for showing immense trust in leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, under his guidance we are continuously working for betterment of 37 Lakh people of state."
