Nurul Anim abused the girl for wearing jeans and when the girl protested, he assaulted her and kicked the girl out of his shop.

Guwahati: If you are a Muslim girl, you can't wear a pair of jeans pant. This seems to be the new fatwa of radical Muslim leaders in Assam. In the act of moral policing, a Muslim religious leader physically assaulted and abused a Muslim computer science student in Biswanath Chariali town in Assam on Monday (October 25).

According to the victim girl who didn't want to identify herself for safety was kicked out of a mobile store and abused by slang language by one Nurul Amin on October 25. The girl said she went to the nearby mobile store to purchase headphones on October 25 evening. She was wearing jeans, pants and a Kurti. Seeing her in that attire, the shopkeeper Nurul Anim (60) started abusing her. When she protested it, the man kicked her out of the shop and abused her by saying that only prostitutes wear this type of clothes, and Muslim girls must wear Burqa.

The man alleged that the computer science student of the Biswanath College was spoiling the environment of his house wearing jeans while his daughters-in-law were there.

Nurul Amin claimed that all women in his house wear Burqa and Hijab and asked how she dared to enter his house wearing jeans. She opposed the man by saying that her Kurti and jeans were not indecent attire, and nobody in her village had said anything about her attire. She also told him he had no right to comment on her dress. Hearing this, Nurul Amin pushed her out of his shop, which is inside his house on campus.

The girl said, "I went to his house to buy a pair of earphones. I was shocked to see him yelling at me, rebuking me. At first, I was not able to comprehend what was the issue. He then lashed out at me and said that I shouldn't be wearing jeans and always wear a burqa while roaming in the street."

The girl informed her parents about the unwanted incident. The girl's father, Ayub Khan, had an argument with Nurul Amin about the issue. Three days later, on October 28, two sons of Nurul Amin, namely Rafiqul Islam and Shahidul Islam, thrashed the girl's father after they spotted him on the road. Ayub Khan said that the two sons kicked and punched him several times and broke his glasses on the road. Ayub Khan said that Nurul Amin is trying to impose the Talibani style of Islam, which will not be accepted.

Following the incident, the girl's family lodged a complaint about the incident and FIR has been registered against them under sections 341/294/323/34 of the Indian Penal Code. Rafiqul Islam and Sahidul Islam, sons of the Nurl Amin, have been arrested for beating the girl's father, and a probe has been started in the case.

Locals in the ward of Biswanath town said that they don't want these types of Talibani rules in their place. But still, some religious leaders try to force it on Muslim women.
