Guwahati: Not only the ordinary migrant Muslims are involved in drug peddling in Assam. Muslim Jonab and Hafiz are also running drugs racket in the state. Bongaigaon district police in lower Assam have arrested one Hafiz Abdullah Ali while trying to deliver drugs to a customer in the Kisan Bazar area of the town on Saturday evening.
On a confirmed tipoff, Bongaigaon police were conducting raids in different places of the town. Finally, the police team received information that the drug peddler Hafiz Abdullah Ali was in the Kisan Bazar area to deliver a small consignment to a customer. The police team apprehended the peddler Hafiz Abdullah Ali in a Naka checking in that area. The police team found 12 grams of heroin in a soapbox from his possession.
On the initial investigation, the police team found that one Jonab Altaf Ali is running a drug racket in the district, engaging Muslim religious leaders in peddling. These peddlers deliver small amounts of drugs to cheat the police. Police sources said that police generally don't doubt the religious leaders, and they have many followers, so the racket thought it would be easy for them to run the drug peddling game. But finally, their crimes were exposed, and Bongaigaon police are now after the mastermind of the racket Jonab Altaf Ali, who has been absconding since Saturday evening.I
In another successful operation against drug racket, Bongaigaon police searched the houses of Rafiul Hussain and Manjil Hussain of Kabaitary village of Jogighopa area and recovered 876 numbers of banned capsules and tablets from their possession. This gang is involved in the peddling of band capsules in the state, smuggling these contrabands to Bangladesh.
In another successful operation in the Cachar district of Barak Valley on Sunday, SDPO Lakhipur and OC Jirighat apprehended a woman Yasmin Hussain with 10 soapboxes containing 127gms Heroin and 20000 YABA tablets at Chapor Moina under Lakhipur police station.
