Baksa police in Assam arrested Mofidul Islam of Barpeta with drugs and on his inputs arrested Rashid Ahmed of Thoubal Manipur involved in drugs peddling and fake Indian currency circulation.

Guwahati: The ongoing war against drugs in Assam and the strict vigil of Assam police has forced the drug rackets to think twice before trying to enter the state. But the notorious drug rackets are changing their modus operandi to confuse the police operations. The illegal migrant Muslim criminals are now the new partners of the drugs rackets in Assam. Police on a daily basis arreting scores of such drugs peddlers in the state. Along with drugs the new trade they find is fake Indian currency notes (FICN). 

Baksa police on Tuesday night led by OC Barama police station conducted raids in Hatigaon, Guwahati and apprehended two peddlers. The arrested peddlers are identified as Inamul Haq of South Salmara Rashid Ahmed Ali of Lilong, Thoubal district, Manipur.

Huge quantities of banned contraband and Fake Indian Currency Notes were found in their possession. The arrested peddlers were staying as tenants in the Hatigaon area of Guwahati and were involved in drugs trade and fake currency circulation. Previous day on a specific input, a team of Baksa police led by Addl. SP(HQ) and OC, Barama police station searched a Bus  coming from Guwahati towards Barpeta district. In the search the police team seized 42 packets of banned capsules from the possession of a passenger namely Md Mafidul Islam of Palashkandi, Goalpara district. In police interrogation arrested Mafidul Islam confessed that, drug racket active in Guwahati supply those banned contrabnds to him.

These drugs were transited to Guwahati from Thoubal district of Manipur. Baksa Police also came to know about the fake currency circulation network of the same drugs racket active in Guwahati. Based on these inputs Baksa police raided a house in Guwahati and arrested two criminals involved in a drugs racket and fake currency circulation. Further investigations are on to nab the entire racket.
