Since the Taliban took control of Kabul on Sunday (August 15), its onslaught is continuing unabated in Afghanistan.
After burning down a library in Kabul, the Taliban on Friday (August 20) burnt down the Khalid Bin Walid amusement park in northern Afghanistan.
They also burnt down a football park in Sheberghan in northern Afghanistan.
Taliban does not allow any game or amusement park as it is prohibited in Islam.
In 2001, the Taliban had destroyed the two massive 1,500-year-old statues of Buddha carved into a mountain in the Bamiyan province.
The statue of Hazara leader Abdul Ali Mazari was pulled down by the Taliban a few days back. In 1995, the Taliban had captured, tortured and killed Shia leader Abdul Ali Mazari.
Toby Harnden, former foreign correspondent of the Sunday Times who specialises in war and terrorism, posted on Twitter, “I am receiving reports of the Taliban burning down Khalid Ibn-al Walid Park (where there were fairground rides) in Mazar-i Sharif and Football Park in Sheberghan, both in northern Afghanistan. This is the fire in Mazar.”
