MP Shafiqur Rahman Barq compared the Taliban with Indian Freedom Fighters and supported the Taliban in forming a Government in Afghanistan.

Controversial Samajwadi Party MP Shafiqur Rahman Barq has been booked for sedition, promoting enmity and hurting religious sentiments for supporting the Taliban. The Sambhal MP had earlier issued a statement on August 16 hailing Taliban takeover of Afghanistan and comparing their assault on the country with India's freedom struggle.

Barq has been booked under sections 124a (Sedition), 153a (Promoting enmity between groups) and 295a (outraging religious feelings).

"When India was under British rule, our country fought for freedom. Now Taliban wants to free their country and run it. Taliban is a force that did not allow even strong countries like Russia and US to settle in their country," Barq said.

"Afghanistan's independence is their personal matter. Why the US will rule in Afghanistan? The Taliban is a force there and the Afghan people want freedom under its leadership," he added.
