The AIFF has chosen ten Manipur girls to join the Senior Women’s National Coaching Camp’s final preparations to be held at Jamshedpur from August 16.
Imphal: After a splendid performance in the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics by three Manipuri girls, namely Silver medalist Mirabai Chanu, Boxer MC Mary Com and Hockey player Sushila Pukhrambam, the girls from the Northeastern state Manipur, will now take on the football field. All India Football Federation (AIFF) has selected ten women footballers from the state of Manipur for the India national football team.
The AIFF has chosen ten Manipur girls to join the Senior Women’s National Coaching Camp’s final preparations to be held at Jamshedpur from August 16.
The women footballers will be selected from the camp to represent India in the next AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2022.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh termed it as another contribution to the field of Indian sports from Manipur. Taking on Twitter, the chief minister said, "Proud moment for our girls as AIFF has included 10 Manipuri players in the final list for the Senior Women’s National Coaching Camp to be held at Jamshedpur from August 16 in preparation for the forthcoming AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2022. My best wishes to all the participants."
It should be mentioned that 31-year-old Ngangom Bala Devi of Manipur has been adjudged the AIFF Women’s Footballer of the year 2020-2021. Devi plays for India Women’s National football team and is currently playing for Rangers Women’s FC in Scotland from 2020.
Ngangom Devi is the first women footballer in India to sign a professional contract in Europe.
