The Modi government honoured the 98-year-old freedom fighter Kartick Chandra Dutta on Saturday. The representatives of the Union government met him at his residence in Kolkata.
He could not travel to Delhi because of Covid-19.
“Dutta was among the few freedom fighters who were invited in Delhi to get honoured by the Government of India on the occasion of Independence Day but it could not happen because of Covid. So the government sent their people here. He has been honoured in Delhi by the President and the Prime Minister before this about five or six times," ANI quoted Dutta's son Debakar.
Debakar said to ANI “Since the beginning, he wanted to do something for his country. He had a group of like-minded friends as well. He raised slogans during the Quit India movement but was arrested and put into prison.”
Dutta’s daughter-in-law Manjula said she was not aware of Dutta’s role in India’s freedom struggle and was told about it by her mother-in-law.
Dutta told ANI that he was sent to prison several times for participating in India’s freedom struggle but he did not quit.
