Big blow to Maoists in Dandakaranya: Four Naxalites surrendered in Lone Varatu campaign

During the surrender, the Naxals couple said that the Maoist ideology is hollow and discriminatory behaviour is practised in it. 

In the Lone Varatu campaign (a request to the youth who have been misguided to leave the path of violence and return to the mainstream) being run against the Naxalites, the security forces got a significant success on Sunday when four Naxalites, including the wanted Naxalite couple, surrendered before the Bijapur Police.

The surrendered couple Raju Karaam(24) and his wife, Sunita Karaam(21), on whom a bounty of Rs 16 lakh was placed by the government, have been a part of Naxal activities in Chhattisgarh, Orissa and Telangana.

According to police sources, the surrendered Naxalite Raju was involved in Naxalite activities as Group Commander under Kalahandi Nayagarh Division of Orissa State Committee. At the same time, his wife Sunita was also active under Kalahandi Division. Grown-up in the surrounding areas of Bijapur of Bastar division, both these Naxalites are said to have a firm hold in the organization.

According to them, it was from the forests of Bijapur that the Naxalites lured both of them into their team in the name of protecting the water, forest and land of the tribes. Later, seeing their ability, both were entrusted with the responsibility of working in Odisha and Telangana.

During the surrender, the Naxals couple said that the Maoist ideology is hollow and discriminatory behaviour is practised in it. Along with this, mental and physical abuse is also encouraged in the Naxalite organization. Fed up with all this, the couple said they are surrendering by showing faith in the Constitution of India.

The surrender of both the wanted Maoists took place in the presence of senior officers of the police department, including Deputy Inspector General of Central Reserve Force Komal Singh and Bijapur SP Kamlochan Kashyap.

In a similar incident, two Naxalites, including Naxalite Jan Militia Commander Lakhindra Kunjam, the one on whom a reward of one lakh rupees was announced, has surrendered in Dantewada.

The other Naxalite has been identified as Bhima Koram.

With the surrender of these two, the number of Naxalites who surrendered under the Lone Varatu campaign has reached 400. Dantewada SP Dr Abhishek Pallav said that Lone Varatu is proving to be a very successful campaign, under which the number of surrendered Naxalites is increasing day by day.
