Guwahati: Imam of a Mosque in Barpeta district in Assam was arrested for raping his stepdaughter. In a sensational incident, Barpeta Road police on Sunday (August 1) night arrested Imam Rafiqul Islam from his village Bogoriguri for raping his stepdaughter.
The arrested Imam Rafiqul Islam raped his stepdaughter several times at his rented house in Kalahbhanga area of Barpeta Road. The 36 years old Imam raped the minor girl, who is his stepdaughter from his second wife, on Saturday also when his wife was not at home. The victim informed police that she had been raped several times by her stepfather. The rapist Iman threatened the girl not to speak about it to anybody.
But she couldn’t bear the mental and physical torture furthermore and informed her mother on Saturday night. The victim’s mother immediately lodged an FIR with Barpeta Road police station. Knowing this, the rapist Imam of Bankpara Jame Masjid fled to his native village in the same district. Later the police arrested Rafiqul Islam from his village. A case has been filed against Islam and police investigating the matter. Police have done the compulsory medical checkup of the 15-year-old victim and the medical report is awaiting.
Police sources said once they access the medical report, further actions will be taken immediately. The Imam married the victim’s mother last year. He stays in a rented house in Barpeta road with the 3 children of his second wife. The lady works as domestic help in several households. While she is out of home for her work, the Imam rapes his older step daughter. Local people demanded a quick enquiry of the matter and exemplary punishment of the rapist Imam.
