After Congress MP from Barpeta constituency Abdul Khaleque demanded a ban on slaughter of pigs and sale of pork 500 metres around mosques, the BJP said that the cow and pig cannot be compared as nobody worships the pig.
Criticising the BJP government’s Assam Cattle Bill, Khaleque had said that if the slaughter of cows and sale of beef is banned in a 5-kilometre radius of temples, then the government should also ban the slaughter of pigs and sale of pork 500 metres around mosques as pork is forbidden in Islam.
Responding to Khaleque’s demand for a ban on pork, BJP’s national general secretary and Mangaldoi MP Dilip Saikia said that preservation and conservation of the cow is the moral responsibility of every Indian.
