After a long wait, the ban on the additional dearness allowance of central employees has been lifted.  Along with this, it has been announced to give dearness allowance at the rate of 28 percent to the employees from July.

In fact, in March last year, the Central Government had announced to increase Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) from 17 percent to 21 percent.  However, due to Corona, an additional 4 percent dearness allowance was stopped.  This ban was implemented till June 2021.  Now the government has removed this ban, giving relief to the employees.  According to the information, the government has decided to give an 11% dearness allowance to the employees in three installments.  This decision was taken in the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.

Relief to lakhs of employees: 48 lakh 34 thousand central employees and 65 lakh 26 thousand pensioners will get benefit from this decision.  At the same time, this step is estimated to cost the government 34,400 crores.  However, this decision has been taken at a time when petrol, diesel, and cooking gas have become expensive in the country.  Let us know now how much a lower level central employee getting a basic salary of Rs 18,000 will benefit from the increase in DA.

this is the math:

Level 1 Basic pay = Rs 18000

28% DA = Rs 5040 per month

Yearly DA = Rs 60,480

According to this calculation, now an employee earning a basic salary of Rs 18,000 will get Rs 5040 per month and Rs 60,480 per year as dearness allowance.  At present, according to the DA of 17 percent, the employee gets a dearness allowance of Rs 3060 per month, which is Rs 36,720 for a year.  Accordingly, due to DA Hike, this employee will get Rs 1980 more per month and Rs 23,760 more per year.
