The Delta variant of Covid-19 is becoming a major concern around the globe, as it is highly contagious and is spreading rapidly.
A Thai study has said the Chinese vaccine Sinovac, widely used in many countries, is ineffective against the Delta variant of Covid-19, which is very contagious and becoming a global concern.
The study, which was released Friday (July 9), by the Thai Red Cross Emerging Infectious Diseases-Health Science Center and a virologist at BIOTEC says the best protection against the Delta variant are mRNA vaccines.
It further says, in the absence of mRNA vaccine, two doses of AstraZeneca provide better protection against the Delta variant.
AstraZeneca vaccine in India is being manufactured by Pune-based Serum Institute of India and named Covishield. It is being administered in India since the start of the vaccination drive in January this year.
The Delta variant, which is highly contagious, is becoming a major cause for concern, as many countries across the globe are witnessing a sudden rise in the number of cases because of the Delta variant.
Last month, a study by Feng Zijian, a researcher at the Chinese Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has claimed Chinese vaccines, Sinopharm and Sinovac, are ineffective against the Delta variant.
Thailand had ordered over 25 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine, of which it has received 14.5 million doses.
