Naxalites often do such atrocities to instill and extort money.
Just one and a half kilometers away from the Chhattisgarh armed forces camp in the attacked district of Chhattisgarh, Naxals have attacked a private iron ore mine and killed the supervisor.
The incident took place in Amdai Valley near Dongar Hills, in which about 100 Naxalites who came in black uniforms attacked the mine under Jayaswal Neco Private Limited at 10 am on Saturday. They caused a commotion and assaulted the construction workers for nearly two hours. The Naxals also torched six vehicles, including two hyva. In the attack, two poclain excavator machines were also torched by the Naxals.
Before leaving, the Maoists also killed a supervisor working there. The slain supervisor has been identified as Pradeep Sheel. According to eyewitnesses, the Naxalites tied Pradeep’s hands and then beat him to death with sticks. While leaving, the Naxalites also threatened the workers present there.
Mohit Garg superintendent of police Narayanpur told that after being informed about the incident, a team of security forces from a nearby police camp rushed to the spot. Some Naxals hidden in the jungle opened fire on security personnel with country-made barrel grenade launchers, resulting in a gunfight.
However, no police personnel has been injured in the gunfight, Garg added. The mines’ administration had not informed the police about the road building work, according to Mohit Garg, thus the police could not make necessary security measures.
However, this has been denied by Jaiswal Neco, Private Limited. Confirming the attack, Bastar IG Sundarraj P said that the situation is completely under control and the police are closely probing every aspect.
It should be noted that the Naxalites continue to commit such activities in the area from time to time, to raise fear and intimidation and extort money from the mine owners.
Production at Jaiswal Neco Mines is yet to begin and only pre-mining field development work is going on at the site.
