No Compensation Money Received Ever After A Year, Delhi High Court Issues Notice to Arvind Kejriwal Govt After Police Constable Amit Kumar?s Wife Moves Court

Amit Kumar died due to Covid-19 in May last year. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced compensation money of 1 crore rupees.
The wife of Delhi Police constable Amit Kumar, Pooja, moved the Delhi High Court with the plea to order the Arvind Kejriwal government to provide the ex gratia amount of 1 crore rupees which was announced by the chief minister after Amit’s death last year.
Amit had succumbed to Covid-19 on May 5 last year.
On May 7, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced that Amit Kumar’s family would be provided a ‘Samman Rashi’ of 1 crore rupees.
More than a year has passed, and the family did not get any update from the government.
The bench of Justice Amit Bansal asked the respondents to submit the affidavit in four weeks and, the matter has been listed for July 23.
The order noted, “Counsel for the petitioner relies upon a tweet by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi wherein the sacrifice made by the husband of the petitioner has been noticed and, it has been announced that his family will be given ex gratia amount of Rs. 1 crore.”
The order further noted, “…the said amount has not been given, even one year after the said tweet.”
