With demand for Oxygen skyrocketing, the Union government has taken multiple steps to ensure an adequate supply of Oxygen reaches hospitals across the states.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order Thursday directing all the states and union territories to ensure uninterrupted movement of vehicles carrying medical Oxygen.

There were news reports which claimed to protest farmers at the Delhi border were not allowing vehicles carrying medical Oxygen to pass through.

The ministry order also directed the states and union territories to ensure round the clock movement of Oxygen carrying vehicles.

It noted that no restriction can be put on the Oxygen supplier to supply the medical Oxygen only to the hospitals in the states and union territories where the plants/suppliers are located.

The Indian Air Force has also been roped in to transport Oxygen cylinders. It’s expected to cut down the time taken to supply the cylinders to the hospitals in remote places.

To further boost the supply of the medical Oxygen, the Union government is airlifting 23 Oxygen generation plants and containers from Germany.

These will be installed in hospitals where demand for medical Oxygen is more to cater to the large number of admitted patients.
