AIADMK has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against former Union Minister and 2G scam fame A Raja of DMK for making vulgar, derogatory and sexist remarks against CM Edappadi K Palaniswamy while campaigning in Chennai.

The desperate DMK has been stepped up its physical and verbal attacks on its opponents in Tamil Nadu fearing its poll debacle. With its manipulated poll surveys, I-PAC team’s stage managed dramas failed to evoke favorable response or create an atmosphere for DMK to take over regime from AIADMK. Its leaders including M K Stalin, his son and other senior leaders, following the footsteps of their mentor M Karunanidhi have been making indecent, sexist, and derogatory and third rated comments.

DMK has a track record of making comments that are sexist. It will go any length to slur the image of opponents by making remarks on their caste, personal life, religion, unfounded corruption and making repeated lies to make it as truth and like. Stalin has been accusing CM Edapadi K Palaniswamy of crawling on the floor to become CM. Palaniswamy retorted by saying, “I am not a lizard or a snake to crawl”. Stalin also accuses him ‘ a traitor’ who betrayed Jayalalithaa as well as VK Sasikala. Stalin is trying to create an image that he is the sole savior of Dravidian identity and Tamil rights in the state. Stalin has been attacking both AIADMK and BJP. DMK is better known for dual standards while in power and out power. Stalin, who can’t speak without a piece of reference sheet, and his son are giving fancy and indecent sobriquets to PM, CM and his cabinet colleagues like Edapadi , dead body, Gutka fame etc. These remarks, targeting seniors and elected representatives, are not in good taste.

A couple days back, moderator of literary debates (a mock court wherein two sides will be asked to present their view in and against a given topic) Dindigul I Leoni made an insensitive comments against women. While campaigning for DMK candidate in Coimbatore, he compared women to cows by saying they have become fat by drinking non-domestic cows. He said that women had lost their curved 8 like shape (meaning tapper at the waist or narrow). Earlier, he pointed out, women carry their infants by their waist due to a specific body shape. Women used to be ‘thin and their lips would have curves and they no longer have figure 8 and increasingly have become like barrels or like air filled balloons”. Leoni is known for his anti-Hindu rants. These remarks drew the ire of netizens and women in particular. Several took it to social media by retweeting the video of Leoni terming it as “shameful’ and reek of sexism”. A woman lawyer has lodged a police complaint seeking action against comedian and DMK campaigner Leoni for his derogatory remarks about women.

Now 2G scam fame and DMK Lok Sabha member A Raja , who is also an advocate, canvassed for DMK’s Thousand Lights assembly constituency DMK candidate Dr. Ezhilan who is pitted against actress and BJP nominee Kushboo Sundar. Ezhilan is alleged to be part of the Karuppar Koottam that made obscene commentary on Lord Murga’s hymn Skanda Shasti Kavasam. Ezhilan has also made cheap and vulgar comments on God and their consorts. As a reward he was fielded in this Muslim dominated segment. A Raja while seeking votes for him on 26th made a comparison of Stalin with CM Edapadi Palaniswamy and questioned his birth in a poor light.
AIADMK advocate Wing state joint secretary C Thirumaran has moved the Election Commission seeking action against A Raja and ban him from canvassing. In his complaint, he said “ MP A Raja of DMK party, while campaigning for N Ezhilan at Thousand Lights not only made adverse comments against TN Chief Minister Edapadi K Palaniswamy but also made vulgar and third-rated comments which is clearly offensive under the provisions of Election offences and Indian Penal Code”.

Thirumaran said “ A Raja has been continuously making false, vulgar speeches not only against CM but also against Deputy CM Pannerselvam in his poll campaigns. Raja’s speech has undermined the reputation of the leaders of our party and also subverting the election process”. He quoted what Raja said ” Let’s compare DMK president M K Stalin and TN CM Edapadi K Palaniswamy . Who is Stalin? In 23 years Stalin, who was the son of then CM Karunanidhi, served one year in prison under MISA provisions. After serving as party’s district secretary, became general committee member, youth wing secretary, treasurer, then working president and now DMK’s chief after death of his father. Stalin rose to this top level step by step. He was an MLA, then Chennai Mayor, state minister and Deputy CM and now is going to become a CM . This is the right way of scaling the ladder of growth. Stalin is someone who was born out of a “rightful marriage after 300 days. While no one knows Edapaddi Palaniswamy until Jayalalithaa’s death and EPS has not reached any heights in public life. So if Stalin is a baby born out of a rightful relationship then Edapaddi Palaniswamy is born as a premature baby out of an illicit affair in politics”.

Thirumaran of AIADMK has appealed to the TN Chief Electoral Officer to take stringent action under election laws and IPC along with issuing directions to ban him from addressing future campaigns.

Referring Raja’s another speech made earlier this week in which he said CM Palaniswamy was worth a rupee lesser than Stalin’s slipper. Raja said “ till recently Edappadi was working in a jiggery Mandi and how is it fair to say he is in equal competition with Stalin? Even the price of our leader Stalin’s slipper is greater by a rupee when compared with your worth ( Edapaddi).

CM Palaniswamy, in Madurai on 25th March, answered by saying “ I am a humble farmer. See how A Raja has made a comparison of a Chief Minister? I am happy to be that ( a rupee lesser than the value of Stalin’s slipper). I am a farmer and farmers are like that. Poor people will be like that only. People who have stolen Rs.1.76 lakh crore will speak like this only (taking a swipe at the 2G scam). The CM made a scathing attack on DMK accusing them of making money from thin air, an indirect reference to 2G scam.
See the level the DMK has stooped as low as to insult a Chief Minister of a state to get votes? A Raja is an habitual offender in making offensive comments what comes to his mind. CM Edapaddi on hearing Raja’s comments wept and is learnt to have written a letter to TN Governor and state DGP drawing their attention. Palaniswamy’s mother passed only last year. He comes from a powerful Kongu goundar community. Now an apolitical, the Kongu Velalar community forum has decided to not to vote DMK in the coming assembly elections. In a statement the forum said, Nilagiri MP Raja made comments on CM’s mother with an objective of defame him. We condemn his unfounded remarks. Raja has degraded women’s modesty by his cheap comments. He has questioned her virtues and denigrated the reputation of the CM Palaniswamy. DMK is trying to make political gain by dividing the community and social harmony. For this defamatory remarks, A Raja or DMK should seek unconditional apologies failing which we will ( community) not vote the DMK.
DMK chief Stalin is busy with his campaigning without offering or regretting what A Raja said. It is assumed that Raja has the approval and backing of the party. People of Tamil Nadu who are not happy with DMK’s behavior and speeches made by its leaders, waiting for their turn to teach them a befitting lesson.
