In a Ghar Wapasi programme in the Garhwa district in Jharkhand, 181 Christians from 33 families converted to Sarna.
Admitting it was a mistake to convert from Sarna to Christianity, the families decided to correct the mistake of the past.
In a programme, these people converted to Sarna after following the due rituals.
Sarna is a tribal religion that is considered Sanatani. In it, nature is worshipped in its various forms.
The people who converted told the press their ancestors were converted by the missionaries. With the passage of time, they realised it was a mistake.
There are an estimated 40 lakh Sarnas in the country. About 35 lakh live in Jharkhand. The rest are scattered in Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
The Christian missionaries make every attempt to convert them to Christianity. They have also been exploiting the faultlines by convincing the Sarnas that they’re a separate religion.
