The Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora on Saturday said that the pilot project of the ‘Remote Voting’ facility will start soon with the aim to launch it in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
It will allow the people to exercise their franchise right (voting right) if they are not able to be present in the polling booth on the day of voting.
It is expected to boost people’s participation in the voting process.
A group of technocrats from the IITs is working on the pilot project and is expected to be rolled out in the next three months.
The CEC was speaking in the Sansad Ratna Awards-2021.
He also added that the commission is working to roll out the NRI voting scheme in about a year.
