Making a big breakthrough in the murder of two Dalit girls in Unnao in Uttar Pradesh, police Friday arrested two boys.
Vinay Kumar, the prime accused, was in a one-sided love affair with one of the girls. He became revengeful when the girl rejected his advances.
Kumar told police he had requested the girl for her phone number. When she refused, he hatched a plan to kill her.
On the day of the crime, he went to the field and offered the girl some snacks and a bottle of water laced with pesticide. He offered it only to the girl but her two sisters also consumed it.
The other two girls died in the field. The girl, he wanted to be friends with, is struggling for her life in a hospital in Kanpur. Kumar was accompanied by another accused who is a minor.
All three girls are from one family in Baburahan village in Unnao district. The accused are from the neighbouring village. They are also Dalits.
The opposition was desperately looking for an opportunity to take on the Yogi government. But, police, acting swiftly, cracked the case in 48 hours.
