In what could be suspected as an attempt to target Hindu places of worship and customs, multiple attempts of physically attacking Hindu priests are reported in various parts of Kerala. Priests who travel to temples for the Poojas early morning are being attacked. Three such incidents of similar nature were reported from Mannnancherry in Alappuzha district. A couple of priests had a narrow escape from the violent attacks.
Complaints have been filed at both Mannancherry and Alappuzha North police stations, but the police is not properly investigating the matter, reports Janmabhumi daily. The Hindu Priests, who were travelling on motorcycles were chased by goons carrying weapons. Recently, there were reports of fundamentalists training to use swords by attacking stray dogs.
Many of the Hindu priests are now feeling scared to travel to the temples in the morning time due to the news of attacks and police inaction. There is suspicion of Islamic fundamentalist organisations becoming stronger in Kerala and indulging in violence to disrupt the Hindu belief system and Indian culture.
