The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Wednesday arrested the son-in-law of Maharashtra cabinet minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik in a drugs case. Sameer Khan, Mr Malik’s son-in-law, was called for questioning at the NCB’s Ballard Estate office in South Mumbai in the morning. Sameer Khan reached the office at 10 am and was arrested after several hours of questioning, an official of the central agency said.
He had been summoned by the agency after it found an alleged online transaction of Rs 20,000 between him and one of the accused in the drugs case in which British national Karan Sajnani and two others were arrested last week, sources said. The agency on Tuesday arrested Ramkumar Tiwari, one of the owners of the famous ‘Muchhad Paanwala’ shop in Mumbai which is frequented by celebrities, in the same case.
“On the basis of specific information, NCB Mumbai effected a seizure of Ganja in Cr 3/2021 from one courier at Bandra West. In the follow-up operation, a huge stash of imported strains of Ganja was recovered from the residence of one Karan Sajnani at Khar. Mr Karan Sajnani, Ms Rahila Furniturewala, Ms Shaista Furniturewala and Mr Ram Kumar Tiwari were arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act and produced in the court,” NCB said in a statement. “During the investigation, the role of Mr Sameer Khan, a resident of Bandra also came to light. Sameer Khan was called for examination on 13.01.2021. After detailed examination, he has been placed under arrest. Further, follow up action is underway,” NCB added.
NCB is conducting raids across Maharashtra. “Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is conducting multiple raids in Mumbai. After the arrest of one Sameer Khan yesterday, NCB intensified its investigation in the drugs case, multiple teams of NCB are conducting raids in Mumbai since last night: NCB”, tweeted ANI.
