Become immune to the disturbances of your mind

Your true nature is the pure consciousness beyond the mind, the Atman/Purusha. The mind is connected to the body and external world and reflects biological and social influences and disturbances outside your Self.
What occurs in your own mind is apart from your inner being and reflects the outer world, not your true Self that is pure light and boundless space. You can observe the mind and become detached from it whenever you wish. It just requires turning within. Emotions are forces of nature like elements, doshas and pranas, like the wind, clouds or flowing rivers. If you are willing to let them go they cannot hold on to you.
Merge your mind into the spiritual heart (hridaya). That is the essence of Vedantic meditation, the ultimate pranayama, pratyahara and Yoga nidra in which you merge into the Self of all, the Samadhi of your true nature.
