China has announced stricter regulations for Muslims visiting Saudi Arabia for annual Haj. As per new rules, only the Chinese Islamic Association can organise the Haj pilgrimage. The new regulation, with a total of 42 articles, stipulates that Haj should be organised in accordance with laws and Chinese Muslims should oppose religious extremism.

The state-run Global Times reported that no other organisation or individual should conduct the Haj pilgrimage and Chinese citizens applying for Haj should meet the basic requirements. These new rules will come into effect from December 1.

“People who go overseas to perform hajj should abide by China’s and the destination country’ laws and regulations, and oppose religious extremism, according to the regulations. The related government departments are requested to fulfil their responsibilities and ban illegal hajj activities,” the Global Times reported.

Effective starting December 1, the regulation aims to facilitate Chinese Muslims’ pilgrimages as well as ensure their security during the journey, analysts and religious groups reached by the Global Times said.

According to reports, the country has been witnessing a gradual decline in the number of Muslims embarking upon the annual Haj pilgrimage every year. Saudi Arabia reopened Mecca for the Umrah pilgrimage from October 4 after seven months of the COVID-19 lockdown.

Speaking at a webinar, President of the World Uyghur Congress, Dolkun Isa who is in exile in Germany had recently said that Muslim population of China are not even allowed fasting in Holy Ramadan month and they are forcefully fed through community kitchens. He said that the Chinese communist party is denying all Human rights of minority Uyghur Muslims and that Muslims are not allowed to name their children with religious names.

Dolkun Isa said that Uyghurs are being tortured in camps and are being used as slaves by the Chinese communist regime. Dolkun said that the Communist regime of China is harassing the Uyghur activists who live in exile in even western countries and said that Interpol is being used to track and chase down Uyghur activities who speak against the human rights violation of Chinese government. He said that there are no human rights under the communist regime and said that if the world does not block Chinese goods and businesses, democracy and human rights will be a thing of the past.

“Chinese are even misusing our education system by pushing the concept of East Turkistan being always a ‘part of China’ while every citizen of East Turkistan knows that we are a colony of China. They first destroyed our boundaries. Then they tried to kill us and destroy us so that they could expand. After failing in this game, they are now destroying our identity by outnumbering us in our own country by settling millions of Hans in East Turkistan. They want our land and our natural resources. We are very rich in natural resources. We did not give up in past seven decades when situation was loaded against us. We will not give up now when world opinion is shifting in our favour,” said Rebiya Kadeer, Leader, East Turkistan Freedom Movement, in an interview to Organiser Weekly.
