Imphal, October 4, 2020: Vishwa Samvad Kendra, Manipur has conferred the Devarishi Narad Journalist Award 2020 to Ningombam Hemantakumar, Editor of Sanaleibak Daily at the observance of 8th Devarishi Narad Jayanti held today at Manipuri Hindi Parishad, Imphal.
The observance was attended by former Education Minister, Government of Manipur and MLA of Heirok Assembly Constituency, Dr Th. Radheshyam Singh as Chief Guest; Editor of Sangai Express (Manipuri Edition), Khongendra Khomdram as Guest of Honour and President of Vishwa Samvad Kendra Manipur, A Brajakumar Sharma as President.
While addressing at the gathering Dr Th Radheshyam recalled the role of Devarishi Narad, who is also called as Manasputra in disseminating news to the three lokas. Devarishi Narad is the most travelled Devarishi in the ancient world.
Th Radheshyam also said that the freedom of media should not be suppress, the beauty of press is its free from outside control and fearless. Press is the fourth pillar of democracy and it is the responsibility of all to protect the press and its freedom.
While receiving the Devarishi Narad Journalist Award-2020, Ningombam Hemantakumar expressed happiness to VSK, Manipur for acknowledging his sacrifices as a journalist and promoting a free and fair media ecosystem in Manipur.
He also highlighted that Media professionals in the disturbed area like Manipur are subjected to various forms of violations of freedom of speech and expression.
Devarishi Narad is a Mahapurush, who disseminates information among the three lokas for the Vishwakalyan, Vishwashanti and overall welfare of the Universe, said Dr Sagolsem Kulachandra Singh, Kendra Pramukh of VSK, Manipur.
Media is the mirror of society and a platform to express the voice of the people, said Dr Sagolsem Kulachandra Singh, while urging the people to make use of media and protect its freedom of speech and expression.
