A huge controversy has broken out in Maharashtra over the exclusion freedom fighter Sukhdev from the Marathi language textbook for the 8th standard. The Maharashtra government Textbook Comittee has found it fit to remove Sukhdev and replace him with another freedom fighter Kurban Hussain.
The textbook fiasco erupted after Maharashtra State Bureau of Textbook Production & Curriculum Research published the Marathi subject textbook ‘Balbharati’ which had a chapter on India where the names of the freedom fighter trio of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev was mentioned. However, in the newly published book, page 2 in Chapter 2 has the name of Kurban Hussain in place of Sukhdev. The error which is now seen as deliberate hasresulted in brickbats to the Maha Vikas Aghadi govt from all quarters.
Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas which works towards restoring true history in textbooks and against distortions in them, has said that Kurban Hussain was a freedom fighter and he deserves his place in our textbooks. But that should not come at the cost of removing other freedom fighters, it has said in a statement. By doing so, a great revolutionary has been insulted it said.

The error should be duly corrected and the revised textbook be distributed to the students by taking immediate action in this regard, says the letter.
Along with this, Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas has demanded that the Chief Minister initiate appropriate action against the officials concerned for the blunder.
The Nyas has also written a letter to Governor requesting him to urge the Maharashtra Government to take immediate action in the matter and order it to restore the honor of freedom fighters in our textbook.
