Technology must be used for upliftment of society: Former ISRO chief Dr G Madhavan Nair

Former Chairman of ISRO and eminent scientist Dr G Madhavan Nair said that Technology must be used for the upliftment of society. He was speaking at a webinar jointly organized by Swadeshi Jagaran Manch,Tamil Nadu chapter and Chennai based think tank Center for Policy and Development Studies.

The.eminent scientist said that India has advanced manyfold in technology and added that the Nuclear testing conducted at Pokhran on May 11, 1998, was a milestone in the country’s technological advancement. He said that the country has gone ahead in Agriculture production following the advancement of technology. Madhavan Nair also said that the whole of India was connected to television following the development of satellite technology and credited former. President and prominent scientist Dr APJ Abdul Kalam as the guiding force behind the SLV launch.

The senior scientist said that the recent studies in disaster management and weather forecasting have helped the country to wade off several natural calamities. The space scientist also said that the political will shown by the late Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee in conducting Pokhran nuclear tests amid the poking eyes of foreign satellites was exemplary. He said that this has helped the country becoming a major nuclear power and said that more than triggering a catastrophe this has led to a nuclear deterrent.
