Nizamuddin area in Delhi cordoned off after more than 200 show symptoms of Wuhan virus; They had attended a Tablighi Jamaat event 2 weeks ago

In a concerning development, it has been reported that more than 200 Muslims who attended a Tablighi Jamaat event 2 weeks ago have developed symptoms of the deadly Wuhan virus. The Tablighi Jamaat event called Aalami Mashwara which was held between 17 and 19th March saw participation of thousands of Muslims. Officials suspect that these people could have been affected at this event.
The police have cordoned off the entire area around the Nizamuddin Banglewali Markaz, the global headquarters of the Tablighi Jamaat, and the suspected patients were rushed for screening by the authorities.
It is also learnt that all the suspected patients were residing in the vicinity of the Markaz. While 34 people were taken to hospitals on Sunday, about 150 were hospitalized today. The Banglewali Markaz (Dargah) has now become the focal point for the spread of Covid-19 not only in the area but also in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Andman and Jammu and Kashmir.
The Tablighi Jamaat event was led by Malaysian and Indonesian Islamic preachers who migh have infected people at the congregation. These foreign Islamic preachers are suspected to have inturn attended a Tablighi Jamaat global gathering — Ijtima Asia — at Seri Petaling mosque, Selangor in Malaysia which is seen as the epicentre of the spread of Wuhan/Corona virus in South-east Asia. It is now confirmed that Wuhan virus infection in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei, Vietnam and Cambodia have been transmitted from this event.
