Murugan Loganathan, Vice President of National Commission for Scheduled Castes, appointed as President of BJP Tamil Nadu

Murugan has been a member of ABVP, a Sangh inspired student organisation, since his college days. He is known for his work for the welfare of SC/ST community in Tamil Nadu.

In a move with far reaching effects, Murugan Loganathan, who was serving as the Vice President of National Commission for Scheduled Castes has been appointed as the President of BJP Tamil Nadu. The post had been lying vacant since September 1 after the then president, Tamilisai Soundararajan, was appointed as the governor of Telangana. Murugan is the second dalit to head party’s state unit after S P Kirubanidhi.
 
A native of Namakkal and an advocate by profession, Murugan practised at the Madras High Court. He also holds an LLM degree in International Law from Madras University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights. He served as a Standing Counsel of the Government of India at the Madras High Court and has been a practising advocate for more than 15 years.
 
Murugan Loganathan has been championing the cause of Dalits throughout his life time and has worked towards securing land and other rights for the SC and ST communities in Tamil Nadu. His work has been recognized even by people from other parties. He was appointed as the Vice President of National Commission for Scheduled Castes in 2017. As vice-chairman of the NCSC, he was hearing the Panchami land case involving DMK mouthpiece Murasoli.
 
Murugan has been a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarti Parishad (ABVP), a Sangh inspired organisation from his college days.
