M Anand (33), a resident of Pothanur and District Secretary of Hindu Munnani was attacked by two bike borne assailants when he was returning home after participating in a rally in support of CAA rally in Gandhipuram, Coimbatore at around 10 PM on 4th March. He was hit with a iron rod on his head by men in two motor bikes attacked him on his head with an iron rod.
Hindu Munnani state executive council member Guna said the attack happened while Anand was driving his bike on Nanjundapuram Road. He was returning in a bike with his friend Ravi. After driving some distance, he sensed someone was following him and told Ravi about this. He avoided going through secluded and lonely and dark places. After reaching Nanjundapuram–Pothanur Road, he asked Ravi to get down and go home as he wished to go home after clearing the traffic jam there. Within seconds of Ravi leaving the place, Anand was waylaid by the same bikers who followed him and before he realized what was happening, the men on the bike attacked him with an iron rod. He immediately called Ravi and narrated the incident.
As Anand collapsed on the spot, locals rushed him to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for treatment. On coming to know the attack, a large number of people gathered at the hospital. The police said Anand has been shifted to a private hospital for further treatment and is said to be recovering fast. Based on a complaint, the Pothanur police have registered a case of attempt to murder and three special teams have been formed to nab the culprits.
Hindu Munnani claimed one of the attackers was Nowshad who is also a resident of Pothanur. The police are scanning the CCTV videos fixed on the road to identify the accused. The police said the suspects had followed Anand from Anna Statue signal before targeting him on the isolated flyover area on Nanjundapuram road.
Hindu Munnani calls for bandh
Condemning the attack, Hindu Munnani has called for a day’s bandh today, 7th March. Hindu Munnani leader Kadeswara Subramanian described it as an organised attack to incite violence. He accused the DMK, the Congress and the Left parties of instigating the members of the Muslim community to take political advantage and indulge in violence.
Hindu Munnani has said that Jihadis have had a free run in Tamil Nadu and if this is not checked, it can be detrimental to the state. Attacks and killing of Hindu Munnani, RSS, BJP cadres by Muslim outfits in Tamil Nadu have been increasing year by year.
In January, 38 year old Vijaya Raghu was brutally murdered in Trichy’s Palakkarai Gandhi Market by bike borne Muslims. Ramalingam in Kumbakonam, Sasi Kumar in Kovai, Auditor Ramesh in Salem and others were killed in gruesome manner.
Hindu Munnani leader Rajesh has said, “We try to drive home that neither the state government, nor the police, judiciary would help or support Hindus. They have to face challenges by coming together. This is the need of the hour. We have two options. Either to face challenges from minorities and apathy of the police, judiciary and state government jointly or perish.”
