BJP is all set to return to power with a majority on its own as the party is leading in more than 300 seats. The NDA is leading in around 349 seats. In contrast, the main opposition Congress Party is only leading in 50 seats. The final results are expected in the next few hours as the counting is progressing in total 542 constituencies.
After Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, Narendra Modi is the third prime minister of India to retain power for a second term with full majority in Lok Sabha.
In 2014, the BJP had won 282 seats out of total 543 in Lok Sabha.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, India has won yet again following Lok Sabha poll verdict. In a tweet, Shri Modi said, a strong and inclusive India can be built if everyone stands together. He said India will grow and prosper together.
Meanwhile, BJP President Amit Shah has termed the Lok Sabha poll results as a mandate against propaganda, lies, personal insinuations and baseless politics by the Opposition.
In a tweet, the BJP national president said, today’s mandate also shows that the people have chosen development and nationalism by outrightly uprooting casteism, nepotism and appeasement politics. He thanked the people for their support.
