Tumakuru: The social work educators assembled at a two day National Conference titled “New Frontiers in Social Work Practice: Bharatiya Contexts, Perspectives and Experiences” jointly organised by Department of Studies and Research in Social Work, Tumkur University, Tumakuru and the Centre for Social Work, Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya, Wardha, in collaboration with the Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal from December 15 to 16. A Bharatiya Samaj Karya Parishad (BSKP), a national level association to promote Bharatiyakaran of social work education, was also constituted. Prof Siddegowda, Vice chancellor of Tumkur University was elected national president of the BSKP.

Addressing the gathering on this occasion he said organisation would strive for excellence in social work education in India. He also said that the organisation would try to uphold the quality of professional social work and develop professionalism among social work fraternity. Dr Bishnu Mohan Dash, who was elected as general secretary said, the birth of BSKP is another important milestone in the movement for Bharatiyakaran of social work education in India. He also said the BSKP would undertake various activities including the curriculum development in social work and will also conduct short term special training programmes for students and researchers. Prof Ranjana Sehgal from Indore, Prof DP Singh from Punjab, Dr Mithilesh Kumar from Wardha were elected as vice president, treasurer and joint secretary respectively.
