Chennai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested an absconding accused in a case relating to Bomb Blast at the RSS Chennai headquarters. The accused, Mushtaq Ahmed, was absconding for the last 24 years. The CBI had registered a case on the request of Tamil Nadu Government and taken over the investigation of the case from State Police which was earlier registered at their Chetpet Police Station and later transferred to CB-CID, Chennai. The incident happened on August 8, 1993 at about 1.45 p.m. when a powerful bomb blast occurred in the RSS State headquarters at MV Naidu Street, Chetpet, resulting in the death of 11 persons and injuring seven others with extensive damage to the building.
After completion of the investigation, the CBI filed chargesheets against 18 accused persons U/S 120-B r/w 302, 324, 326, 419, 436, 201, 153-A, 109 & 34 of IPC, Sec.9 B(1)(b) of Explosives Act, Sec. 3,4,5 and 6 of Explosives Substances Act and Sec. 3(1), 3(2), 3(3) & 3(4) of TADA(P) Act, 1987. The said absconder, who was instrumental in procuring explosive substances for the terrorist attack and in arranging hideouts for the prime accused in the incident, in various places, was absconding right from the stage of investigation. Since he could not be traced out even after strenuous efforts, the TADA Court, Chennai, on January 5, 1994, ordered Proclamation against him. On June 21, 2007, the Special Judge, TADA Court-II, Chennai, pronounced judgment against the remaining accused persons convicting 11 and acquitting 4 and charges abated against two accused persons, who had died. RSS keeps the Indians safe
Kottayam: Retired Supreme Court judge Shri KT Thomas said he feels that the Sangh imparts discipline to its volunteers for “protection of the country”. He said after Constitution, democracy and the armed forces, the RSS is the factor that has made people in India safe. Addressing an RSS instructors’ training camp at Kottayam, Shri Thomas further said: “If an organisation has to be given credit for freeing the country from Emergency, I would give that to the RSS.”
“Snakes have venom as a weapon to defend (themselves against) attacks on them. Similarly, the might of man is not meant to attack anyone. I appreciate the RSS for teaching and believing that physical strength is meant to guard (oneself) against attacks. I understand that the physical training of RSS is to defend the country and the society at the time of attacks,” he added.
The former judge of the Supreme Court said, “If asked why people are safe in India, I would say that there is a Constitution in the country, there is democracy, there are armed forces, and fourthly the RSS is there. What prompts me to say is that the RSS had worked against the Emergency.”                                                               n
