The political vendetta of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee took a vicious turn this month when the Bengal police slapped a case of provoking  communal tension against honorary director of the India Policy Foundation and an RSS ideaologue Rakesh Sinha, who is also an associate professor in the Delhi University.
Besides Sinha, three other BJP leaders named in the FIR are Pratap Simha, BJP MP from Maysore, Raja Singh Goshamlal, BJP MLA in Hyderabad and Nupur Sharma, BJP spokesperson in Delhi. Surprisingly none of  the accused is from Bengal and nor have their alleged crime occurred in the state.
This seems to be a major sign of frustration in the Mamata Banerjee government which has been promoting “jihadis” in the state and has been trying to muzzle the political dissent.
The case, filed in a Kolkata police station on July 12 on the complaint of one Manoj Kumar Singh. The complainant alleged that Sinha, who has been termed as an RSS spokesperson, tried to foment communal trouble by posting provocative pictures on the social media.
“In the last three months, I have posted three photos: one performing puja at Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain along with my mother; another where the President of India was presenting an award to me; and lastly, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat releasing a book on Sh Narendra Modi”, Sinha added.
How come photo of performing pooja along with my 85-year-old  mother in Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain is a threat to the communal harmony of Bengal? For that matter, how can a photo of Sarasanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat ji releasing the book on Narendra Modi cause threat to  Bengal’s society? Sinha asks.
Sinha took to Twitter to ask Mamata: Are you same Mamata whom I met during my college days in ‘87 interviewed against Marxist repression? Now U r more repressive !! Sinha challenged Mamata repression saying that the ‘repressive tactics, threats, dictatorial regime” can not silence his democratic, secular and nationalist commitment.
Sinha also appeals Kolkata Police to make clear ground for accepting a complaint against him where not a single evidence was given by the complainant!
“How am I conspiring?” asks the RSS ideologue. We will crush crushing mentality of @MamataOfficial !100s of FIRs or imprisonments can”t silence me, can”t reduce my commitment to nationalism, says Dr Sinha.
“The FIR has been filed without any evidence or annexure, Mamata is trying to intimidate democratic secular voice from even outside Bengal. She and her party are perturbed to find research based, logical attack on her communal policy and politics. Since my foundation has published three research based documents on society, economy and culture of Bengal and I have been vocal in TV discussions against her misrule, she is bent upon to take revenge,” defends Sinha while the support for him and protests against Mamata”s mala fide sinister hysterical acts are growing.
He said no annexure had been attached to the FIR to corroborate which picture exactly became a ground for him being named in the FIR. Blaming a senior Congress leader for incorporating his name as an after-thought, Sinha said it was a clear case of political vindictiveness.
He said for four days his name was kept secret as the Bengal police had plotted to arrest him before making the case public.
Sinha underlined his research work in which he had been making observations about the communal flare-up in West Bengal. He said recently the India Policy Foundation came out with an intervention paper, Mini Direct Action in West Bengal, which was an effort to highlight the crisis of governance in the state. The foundation has also published three research books depicting communal degradation that has taken place in the state in the recent past.
