Marking a historic day in the timeline of Jawaharlal Nehru University, that has hit the headlines for wrong reasons, teachers and students of the university organised an event, ‘Valour and Blood Sacrifice of the Martyr of our Motherland’, to commemorate the sacrifice of the brave hearts of our armed forces on the evening of May 5.
Students and teachers thronged Sabarmati Dhaba in large numbers, exactly where a group of anti-nationals had shouted slogans hailing the terrorists like Afzal Guru last year, to pay tribute to the martyrs who laid their lives along the border and the killing fields of Maoist affected regions. The event happened to be a sort of surgical strike on the anti-national elements who defaced the prestigious university among public, both inside and outside the nation. Recently, the house and vehicle of a Professor had been vandalised after he paid tribute to the Kupwara and Sukma martyrs at the campus.
Challenging the Leftist fundamentalists for an open debate on the topics like nationalism, Marxism and its ideological veracity, Prajnya Pravah National Convener
J Nandakumar said, “Communism is defective in theory and destructive in practice. Segregating Communism and Naxalism is a leftist strategy. All left fringes and red terror outfits are ideologically rooted in Marxism, they’re
all same.”
Condemning the selective blindness of the intelligentsia who choose to keep mum on certain incidents, Shri Nandakumar quoted the famous words of Martin Luther King Junior and said, we have to repent not only for the violence and bad words of the bad people but also for the appalling silence and indifference of good people. Speaking on the importance of honouring the martyrs, Shri Nandakumar urged the citizens and the Government to observe a Remembrance Day nationwide every year in honour of the great sacrifice of our Armed Forces.
Noted opinion maker and army veteran Maj. General (Retd) Bakshi said that he was happy to have been invited to pay tribute to soldiers at the same place where a group of people raised slogans in praise of Afzal Guru who had attacked the Indian Parliament. He pointed out that the fountainhead of present day turmoil and prevailing uncertainty in Syria were Universities of Damascus and Aleppo. It all erupted as a student upheaval against the establishment but later escalated into war. “But I am sure that in the coming future, the JNU will shoot to fame for its invaluable academic contributions and devotion and dedication to the nation,” Maj General Bakshi said.
Adv Monica Aurora, the president of Group of Intellectuals and Academicians (GIA) said that nowhere else in the world, be it USA or any European country, anti-national slogans were raised after terrorist attacks. But it happened in Bharat, on JNU campus. Manoj Tiwari MP and Prakash Singh IPS also expressed their views at the event and paid rich homage to the martyrs.
On the occasion, a resolution was mooted demanding a nationwide Remembrance Day to honour our armed forces. Since we do not have a day specially dedicated to honour the sacrifice of our martyrs, the resolution called upon all the citizens of Bharat and the Union Government to observe December 7, the Armed Forces Flag Day, as our “Remembrance Day” to recognise and honour the
sacrifice of our armed force.
“On this day, the nation as a whole should conduct
various programmes and events to express gratitude and solidarity to the serving armed forces personnel and the veterans,” the resolution demanded. It also urged the media to observe the day in the same spirit to inculcate the culture of respecting soldiers through various
programmes. It also called upon students and nation first thinkers to stand up against the leftist-sponsored intellectual war on our national unity.
