A devastated mother, who lost both her husband and son to the swords of Communists, shares her experience in which she reveals the callousness and cruelty of Communists in Pinarayi Village
The Communists are often seen arousing emotions and revolutionary spirit by invoking the name of Pelageya Nilovna Vlasova, the protagonist in the much celebrated Russian classic novel ‘The Mother’ written by Maxim Gorky. Being the mother of a revolutionary, she is an embodiment of all maternal feelings, struggles and sufferings. Ironically, they turn a blind eye to the tearful eyes and hopeless face of a mother in Kannur, Narayani Amma. Her heart-wrenching sobs fall on deaf ears. Narayani Amma is a living example of the Marxist brutality prevailing in Kannur. She lost her husband to the swords of CPM workers in 2002. Since then, her sole refuge was her son Remid (hitherto called Remith). But the Communist predators snatched her 27-year-old son from her and, butchered him in front of her eyes last year. Narayani Amma lives in Pinarayi, the home village of the Kerala Chief Minister. Following the tragedy of losing her son, she made an appeal to the Chief Minister with folded hands and overflowing eyes to finish off her too, with the same sword with which they slaughtered her husband and son.
Narayani Amma started in a trembling voice, with a sentimental grievance. “I have seen they spelt my son’s name ‘Remith’ everywhere. Actually, it should have been ‘Remid’, as it was in his School Certificate; as it was in his passport. Will you please take a note for the future?
I have lost my son. I want to preserve at least his name as it is.”
Narayani Amma’s husband Uthaman was a bus driver. He was stabbed to death by CPM goons in daylight while he was driving the bus. “Since then I have worked very hard to bring up my children from the earnings from
tailoring works. My son used to do some odd works to find the livelihood. He saved that money for his sister’s marriage. He was a very responsible and obedient child. I still don’t know why they killed my poor son,” the
mother sobs.
She remembers, her son was not an active worker of RSS because they live in Pinarayi, the Communist bastion of Kerala where warning boards are publicly erected that read, ‘RSS-Free Zone’, ‘Welcome to CPM Village’ etc. He would not go to Shakha even on Rakshabandhan days. His friends used to bring Rakhi to his house and tie on his wrist, says the mother. “Besides all, you know, my son was a ‘Rs 2 member’ of the Communist party (Dyfi-youth-wing of CPM). He never accepted the membership. On his behalf, I had accepted the membership receipt for the last one decade! All I have done for my son’s life, to avoid any unpleasant incidents in future. But all such humiliating forbearances and submissions went in vain,” she said.
Remid was working in Mumbai. He returned to his village for the treatment of his mother. On October 12, 2016, in the morning he went out to buy medicines for his pregnant sister. CPM had set off a series of attacks for a few days. But nobody calculated that Remid was on CPM radar. As he was about to cross the road right in front of a petrol pump, two motorcycles rushed in and four men with arms hacked him down. “He cried aloud
calling my name. When I came out, I saw the four men butchering my son, piercing his flesh. I couldn’t save him. At last, they kicked him aside and fled,” the
mother laments.
Now the devastated mother wants to see the murderers of his son punished. All the murder accused of her husband were exonerated by the court. She doesn’t want to see the history being repeated. “I am the witness. I want my son’s killers to get capital punishment. For that, I will go to any extent. I didn’t fight for the justice for my husband because I had to look after my children and nobody was there to support me. Now I want the murderers of my son to explain me, why they killed my son. They should come in front of me. Can I hear that before I die?,” the lamenting mother asks.
