P R Sreejesh (30), Hockey Captain of Bharath was all happy to hear about Padma Shri award declared for him. He told Organiser, the pleasant surprise makes him happy, proud and at the same time more responsible. He believes, Padma Shri puraskar is an inspiration to improve his talents in the game.
Sreejesh belongs to Erumeli, a remote village near Kizhakkambalam, Ernakulam district. He joined GV Raja
Sports School, Thiruvananthapuram when he was 12. At that time athletics was his field. But, while he was there, after excelling in volleyball and long jump, he entered hockey. After passing Plus 2, even though he joined a college for graduation, when he got a job with Indian Overseas Bank he opted to accept it. It was in Chennai. His career started to blossom from Chennai.
On 13 Jul 2016, Sreejesh was handed over the responsibilities of the captain of Indian hockey team were handed over from Sardar Singh. In the Rio Summer Olympics 2016, Sreejesh led the Indian hockey team to the Quarterfinals of the tournament. He was the captain of the team that won the silver medal at the 2016 Men”s Hockey Champions Trophy held at London.
Now, the Keralites state in chorus that Sreejesh deserves it. Since Sreejesh was too busy with lot of programmes and matters connected with his profession, he could not give much time to the weekly.
