Noted Jain saint Acharya Vijay Ratnasunder Surishwar Maharaj who has been campaigning against meat export, pornographic websites and for making character as primary foundation of the education system in the country feels that the Padma Award would only facilitate him meeting the top people in the system for his cause, otherwise as a saint getting or not getting award makes no difference for him.
Talking to Organiser he said, “Conferring or not conferring Award makes no difference in the nature of a saint. The only difference that this award can make in my life is that perhaps meeting with the policymakers to farther my endeavour of protecting the Sheel, Sadachar and Sanskar in the country becomes easier. During my stay in Delhi I found it very difficult to meet the people in the power. I hope now I will finish my work faster. My petitions banning pornographic websites, curbing meat export and abolishing 30 per cent tax on Charitable Trusts have been admitted by the Petition Committee of Rajya Sabha. Action on them is still pending.”
He welcomed the government decision to confer the prestigious award to the spiritual persons also. “I think it is for the first time after Independence that a spiritual person has been felicitated with this Award. Honouring me as an individual makes no difference, as many people from diverse fields are honoured every year. But felicitating me as a spiritual person is significant. It will shift the focus of the people to spiritual world,” he said. He urged the policymakers to ensure ‘character’ in the foundation of ‘career’ in the education system.
