T Satisan from Kochi

Keralites know that exemplary Malayalam actor and unparalleled film maker Sreenivasan is unique in all deals and deeds in his  life as well as in profession. He  is always in news, thanks to his extra ordinary performance in acting and his unexampled script and direction in filmdom. Simultaneously recently he hit the headlines for his organic farming in his own land in Thrippunithura near Kochi. Now, the latest contribution of Sreeni towards the welfare of the society is his venture in generating solar energy. Initially he had installed solar panels on his rooftops for his domestic consumption. But, now he has installed specific panels on his roof tops for generating energy and distributing to Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB). Power generated will be used for his domestic purposes and the surplus will be passed on to KSEB. Organiser understands that his lights, fans and TV can be supported by the solar power he generates at home.
Sreeni is understood to have signed an agreement with KSEB in this regard. In effect, KSEB is contractually obliged to credit his account when they generate the invoice for his domestic consumption. The power it gets from Sreeni’s home generation will be measured and the credit will be calculated on pro rata basis.
Sreeni’s message is broad and bright : Educate the general public about the plus points of solar energy. He considers several hydel projects like Athirappally, etc. which are enveloped with controversies and opposition from the social workers and environmentalists when he steps into this novel performance. His endeavour shall be taken as an humble start to help the society during summer when power generation is less and consumption goes high.
Sreenivasan is supposed to sell about 40 kw power to KSEB per day according to the agreement. There is mechanical device to gauge the power Sreeni gives to KSEB.
Sreenivasan’s move is very much appreciated by the people of Kerala. Such a move from a celebrity like him will definitely influence the mind set of the people. Since Sreeni is respected and loved by the film lovers just like they love Mammootty and Mohanlal, the gravity of the influence will be very much powerful hence can pave the way for a new trend for domestic power generation at home.
Recently Sreeni was awarded the Platinum Grade recognition from Indian Green Building Council for having the first eco friendly house in Kerala. Facilities for rain water harvesting, water recycling plant and organic vegetable farming are the specialities of this house.
