Future in Earth Sciences: Earth Science means Geology, disturbances in earth crust, probability of life on other planets, contracting glaciers and its impact on climate, and all such factors are studied in this field. University of Delhi knowing the demand of experts in this field started offering five years integrated course in Earth Science. This course which offers an M Sc in Earth Science admits students after 10+2. There are many branches. These include Environment Studies, Mining, Geo-technology, Atmospheric Science, Geo-hazards, Geographic Information System (GIS) etc.
Opportunities and Salary: Having completed the course, one can get employed as a Geologist with State and Central governments. Central Ground Water Board also employs students from this field. It recruits Hydrologists on the same scale as Geologists. Apart from research institutes, private companies also provide opportunities. The companies in cement, mining sectors employ the professionals from this field. Starting salary may vary between 40 to 50 thousand rupees, which can later increase to lakhs.
