New Delhi: Veteran Sangh Pracharak Suryakrishnaji passed away in New Delhi on March 13. As per his wish, his body was donated for medical research to Vardhman Mahavir Medical College, Delhi through Dadhichi Dehdan Samiti. The eyes were donated to Guru Nanak Eye Centre. Dr Prabhat Goel received the body on behalf of Medical College.
Born on May 23, 1934 in Mintgumari (now in Pakistan) he passed Prabhakar from Punjab University. He joined the Sangh Shakha at Mintgumari in 1940 and became a Pracharak in 1954. His first posting was at Saharanpur. He remained in Saharanpur till 1960 and then was shifted to Eta and other places. He also actively joined the anti-cow slaughter in 1952. During Emergency, he coordinated among various politicians, political parties and social organisation for anti-Emergency agitation on inspiration from Rajju Bhaiya.
After Emergency, he was appointed general secretary of Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh. After the formation of the BJP, he was appointed general secretary of Uttar Pradesh unit. He held the responsibility of organising secretary of Haryana BJP. In 1937, he joined VHP for Shri Ramjanmabhoomi Movement where he played a key role in bringing together various philosophers, journalists, educationists, advocates and intellectuals for a debate on secularism. He also played a key role in collecting documents about Shri Ramjanmabhoomi and played a key role in the dialogue with Muslim organisations on Ramjanmabhoomi issue. It was he who started dialogue with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and the then Prime Minister Chandrasekhar after the violence in Ayodhya during Shilapujan.
In 1994, he was given the responsibility of organising secretary in Akhil Bharatiya Sahitya Parishad, where he not only strengthened the organisation but also made literature social-oriented. In 1998, he became organising secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Adhivakta Parishad. He played a key role in successful disposition of various legal issues related to Hindutva, ban on RSS, Librahan Commission and Ramsetu. He mainly focussed on ensuring justice to all.
Paying tribute at a condolence meeting in Delhi on March 16, RSS Sarkaryavah Shri Bhaiyaji Joshi described Suryakrishnaji as an ideal of dedication and commitment. “He truly realised the words patatveshkayo namaste-namaste that we all recite in the prayer every day. He became a Pracharak during 1950s, which was full of turbulences for the Sangh,” he said.
Uttar Kshetra Sanghachalak Dr Bajranglal Gupt described Suryakrishnaji a multifarious personality, who left his imprints wherever he was deputed for work. “He was a mobile archive, where one can find trusted information with references anytime. Governor of Goa Smt Mridula Sinha and nephew of Surykrishnaji Shri Ashok also shared their reminiscences. RSS Sahsar-karayavah Shri Dattatreya Hosabale, Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh Dr Manmohan Vaidya, RSS National Executive member Shri Indresh Kumar Kshetra Pracharak Shri Prem Kumar, veteran Pracharak Shri Premchand Goel also paid their tribute to the departed soul. n
