Bharat will have a bright future only when we love the society as we love our family, said Mrudula Sinha, Hon. Governor of Goa and the famous Hindi writer. Governor was inaugurating the Sthree Swabhiman Yatra, at Kasaragod, in connection with the golden jubilee celebrations of the Kerala Pradesh Kshethra Samrakshna Samithi (KPKSS). Prof VT Rema, the captain of the Yatra and the state chief of Mathrusamithi, the woman wing of KPKSS, said that women do not get safety and security in the society. Prof Rema said that Swabhiman Yatra aims at bringing back the rights the women enjoyed in good old days. She said that the women with bhakthi, devotion and faith would not insist on going to Sabarimala if they do not belong to the permissible age group. Those who demand the right to go to Sabarimala are not believers; they do not have real bhakthi. Why should nonbelievers get involved in the matters concerning believers?
Prof Rema added that formerly women were respected as ‘mothers’. Now, even mothers are not safe. Lakshmi, Durga and Saraswathi were worshipped as goddesses of wealth, strength and knowledge respectively – the three elements essential for the development and existence of the society. Shree Yogananda Saraswathi of Nithyananda Yogashram, Kasaragod, flagged off the Yatra. Raveesha Thanthri Kundar, the state general secretary of the Hindu Aikya Vedi, presided over the inaugural function. RSS Kshetreeya Karyakarini Sadasya Dr Prabhakar Bhatt Kalladukka, RSS Kerala Prant Karyavah P Gopalankutty Master, Shivagiri Ashram President Swami Prakashananda, KPKSS state chief Swami Ayyappadas, KPKSS general secretary KS Narayanan, Yatra co-ordinator M Shreedharan, Mahila Aikya Vedi state president Nisha Soman, Rajan Mooliyar, Sandhya V Shetty, Mathrusamithi state secretary, Santha S Pillai, BJP state vice president Prameela C Naik, AKB Nair and Santha Panikkar addressed on the occasion. The Yatra will be traversing through all the districts of the state and culminate in Thiruvananthapuram on February 7. —T Satisan
| Minister Resigns Over Bar Bribery Scandal Congress-led UDF Government of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is falling from one pitfall to another. Since the very beginning of its tenure in 2011, government has been in a weak innings. After the resignation of Finance Minister KM Mani over the infamous Bar Bribary case in November, now K Babu, the Excise and Port Minister and the trusted lieutenant of the CM, resigned on January 23. It is again in the wake of the judicial procedure.
