Sarsanghachalak for honest
implementation of reservation quota

“Reservation is necessary but equally important is its honest implementation,” said RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat while interacting with the students at 6th Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad organised at MIT Pune on January 29. Noted scientist Dr Vijay Bhatkar, MIT founder Vishwanath Karad and director Rahul Karad were also present on the dais. Shri Bhagwat favoured continuance of quota policy so long as there is social discrimination in the country, but stressed on its honest implementation. In response to a question on politics based on religion, he said, “This is not a question for me. This should be asked to those who indulge in it. We should practise what we preach and embrace the good”.
He said the RSS has no disagreement with what the country”s Constitution outlines. “Culture is the soul of our Constitution and it also provides for effecting the necessary changes to suit changing times.” He said the Constitution of Pakistan is based on one religion and community and has no scope for tolerance and acceptance of diversity. On the contrary the Bharatiya Constitution was accepted by all and was formed on the basis of consensus. Bharat always accepted and honoured diversity because seeing unity in diversity is our value, he added.    —Virag Pachpore

Mulayam Singhji still has a chance to resolve Ayodhya issue —Champat Rai, VHP general secretary

VHP general secretary Champat Rai termed the statement by senior Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav that he had no option but to order firing on Karsevaks in 1990, as a ‘political’ one, but he said that if there is a change of heart now Mulayam Singhji can become an ‘Itihas Purush’ by persuading the Muslims to withdraw their claim from the court and resolve Sri Ramjanmabhoomi issue permanently.
Talking to Organiser in New Delhi he said, “I know Mulayam Singhji is a devotee of Hanumanji, a goupalak, loves Hindi and Bharateeya values very much. I also know that if a foreign born lady could not become Prime Minister of Bharat, it was because of him. But it took 25 years for him to regret for that unfortunate incident. Since he is a politician his words definitely have a political angel. We do not accept that he was helpless on November 2, 1990. The Karsevaks on that day proceeded to Sri Ramjanmbahoomi in two groups. One group led by Uma Bharati and Vinay Katiyar while passing through the Ashram of Mahant Nrityagopal Dasji, Pramod Van proceeded to Lucknow-Gorakhpur Highway. Nothing happened to that group—no firing or no police action. The second group, led by Prof Mahendra Aroa of Rajasthan, proceeded to Hanuman Garhi passing through Digambar Akhara. Nobody tried to prevent them even at Digambar Akhara. When they entered the Bottle Neck after crossing the Digambar Akhara, suddenly firing began from the roofs of the houses. If the Karsevaks were not to be allowed at all to Janmabhoomi, why were they not stopped even before Digambar Akhara? Sharad Kothari and Ram Kothari were shot on the head at Bottle Neck. Who issued such firing orders? There must have been general order for firing which never included shooting at head. Since firing took place at a particular place, it seems it was pre-planned. Therefore, to claim that they had no option is baseless. There were so many options to prevent the crowd earlier. People would have dispersed if there was tear gas shelling, lathicharge, air firing or use of water cannons.”
“Mulayam Singhji can resolve this issue even now. During the regime of Chandrasekharji he was part of the dialogue between Hindus and Muslims. He is well aware that Babri Masjid Action Committee leaders stopped attending the dialogue. He still maintains good relations with the Muslim leaders. Jafaryab Jilani, who fought the case in court for over two decades, is now Additional Advocate General in Samajwadi Party government of Uttar Pradesh. Therefore, if Mulayam Singhji persuades the Muslims to withdraw their claim from the court, he can become an ‘Itihas Purush’ for resolving this issue, equally as he became infamous for ordering firing on the Karsevaks,” Shri Rai added.    n

Tribute to a brave mother

Smt Sumitra Kothari, the brave mother of Ram Kothari and Sharad Kothari, who sacrificed their lives for Sri Ramjanmabhoomi in Ayodhya on November 2, 1990, passed away in Kolkata on January 26. She was 64. She is survived by a daughter Poornima. Her husband had passed away in 2002. RSS Sahsarkaryavah Shri Dattatreya Hosabale expressed deep condolence on her demise. In his tribute VHP general secretary Shri Champat Rai said, “She was indeed a ‘Veer Mata’ who sacrificed her two young sons for the birth place of Sri Ram. After that sacrifice she along with her husband visited Ayodhya every year. Her daughter Poornima, who lives in Kolkata, is an active social activist. When I think about this brave mother, I remember the brave women of the country who motivated their husbands or sons to sacrifice lives for the motherland. Pujya Sumitra Devi was also an equally brave mother. My humble tribute.”    n
