More than 300 scholars assembled at the University of Delhi dismissed the chronology of Vedas established by the Marxists-Western Scholars. They declared that the Vedic Civilisation is older than Indus Valley Civilisation and said the researches by traditional scholars must also be taken care properly.
Vedic scholars, archaeologists and scientists assembled at a national seminar organised by Sanskrit Department of the University of Delhi from September 26 to 28 urged the Government of Bharat to ensure teaching the other side of the Bharateeya history in schools and colleges, which has deliberately been kept away due to colonial and Marxist influence. “We don’t say stop teaching the disorted history abruptly. We just want arrangements be made to teach the accurate Bharateeya history also through the same history books, so that the students could know both sides,” said Dr Ramesh C. Bhardwaj, Head of Sanskrit Department and also Director of the Seminar while talking to Organiser.
“Today the history books from secondary to higher education provide colonial chronology of Bharateeya ancient history and nowhere mention the traditional point of view about those texts. We want the students of history should not take account of only those people who always worked against the Bharateeya wisdom. Through this seminar we have tried to address the distortions made by Christians, Western, European and American scholars with the support of Bharateeya Marxists. These mafias have been trying to destroy the identity of Bharateeya antiquity. They are doing it that for the last 60 years, but now the society cannot allow it further. Now there is a government that can be receptive to such thoughts. We want to put forward a rational point of view. Everything should be rational and scientific. We have so many tools to check and test anything in this 21st century. If something comes through that we must honour and re-evaluate that,” added Dr Bhardwaj.
More than 300 scholars from Pune, Banaras, Kolkata, Lucknow, Delhi and its surrounding areas expressed their views on the chronology of the Vedas propagated by Western and Marxist scholars. “Because of the antiquity, the chronology and historicity of the Vedas has been a matter of continuous discussion and debate among the scholars both in the East and the West. While some argue that they are timeless and ahistorical, the others argue that though we may not yet have a conclusive proof of their historicity yet like all works it will one day be possible to have their precise dates. Attempts have been made to ascertain the date of the Vedas from archaeological and astronomical findings; literary and mythological narratives contained in them; corroborating the names that have been mentioned in them with the historical figures; linguistic features of Sanskrit language used in them for articulation and several other facts. Our purpose is to propagate the researches of the traditional and nationalist scholars, because their researches and point of views were not taken care of properly in the last 60-70 years,” said Dr Bhardwaj.
The seminar was supported by Maharshi Sandipani Veda Vidya Pratisthan Ujjain, under Human Resource Development Ministry of Government of India, and was guided by Indian Archaeological Society, New Delhi. Leading academicians including the Chairman of Indian Archaeological Society Dr KN Dikshit, Director of Bhogilal Leherchand Institute of Indology Dr GC Tripathi, scholars from Shantiniketan, Calcutta University and Banaras Hindu University were among those who shared their views.
The scholars said the Vedas date back to 6,000 BC and the Vedic Civilisation is older than the Indus Valley Civilisation. They questioned the period of composition generally ascribed to the Rig Veda, which is about 1,500 BC, placing it after the decline of the Harappan Civilisation. They also dismissed the view-upheld by historians and archaeologists and presented in textbooks as Marxist and Max Muellerist. “The original date of the Rig Veda has been debated for long. The Marxists have gone all out to establish that Indus Valley Civilisation is older than the Rig Vedic era. The fact that Aryans came to the plains of Bharat and pushed the Dravidians southwards is also not true. Much before the Indus Valley Civilisation, the plains of Bharat had a flourishing culture of its own, which can be established through the Rig Vedic texts. The history needs correction and chronology needs to be fixed,” Prof. Bhardwaj said adding that “our dates do not match with the mainstream dates established by the western historians.” He said there are evidences to suggest that Aryans never invaded but were indigenous and developed into the Harappan Civilisation.
Dr Niranjan Jena, Sanskrit professor at the Visva Bharati University said, “Gopatha Brahmana was not composed in a definite period of time. It is compiled in different periods of time between 7 BC and 6 BC.” The Gopatha Brahmana is the only Brahmana, a genre of the prose texts describing the Vedic rituals associated with the Atharva Veda.
Prof GU Thite from Pune urged the young scholars to arm themselves with the working knowledge of not only English language but also the German and other foreign languages so that they can first detect the distortions made by the western scholars and then effectively counter them in their own languages. Prof SP Narang stressed the need to organise more seminars involving scholars from various disciplines. Prof GC Tripathi said the Western historians claim that the society mentioned in the Vedas was basically the group of shepherd. But it is wrong. Rather they were highly civilised and cultured people. The Rig Veda provides sufficient evidences of it. Prof. Keshav Narayan from Osmania University, Hyderabad, said Vedic language is the oldest language. Prof. Vikram Viveki from Punjab University, Chandigarh, said the Vedas are timeless. Prof. RC Thakran from History Department of University of Delhi, however, still tried to establish the Marxist theory saying Aryans came from outside and River Saraswati is a myth.
Research papers from various disciplines including literature, archaeology, language scientists, human science, Devata Shastra, archieve, social science, genetic science, geography, astronomy, etc. were also presented.
Shri Roop Kishore, secretary of the Veda Vidya Pratisthan, Ujjain drew the attention of the scholars towards an alarming fact. He pointed out that during the 1991 census 49,000 people mentioned their native language as Sanskrit, but during the 2001 census this figure declined to just 14,135. If this decline continues, Sanskrit would lose the privileges provided under the Constitution. He called upon the people to mention Sanskrit as their mother tongue during the 2021 census.
This is a fact that our history has been hugely distorted through wrong chronology. Now if we are able to establish the exact chronology of the Vedas following scientific tools the wrong history taught will automatically vanish.
