Book Review : Bhagavad Gita for Modern Life

Bhagavad Gita is a timeless book i.e. it is relevant across time. Yes, it needs to be interpreted again and again according to the need of time. Balgangadhar Tilak did it for his time. Osho did as per need of his time.
Today, in the age of fast food, the youngest nation focusing on one of the biggest ever skill development program needed another interpretation of Bhagavad Gita. Satish Modh’s book Discover The Arjuna In You fulfils this need.
The book has 18 chapters on the line of Bhagavad Gita with examples from Bharatiya tradition as a case study. Small chapters, lucid language make the book delight to read.
The best part of the book is its foundation. It is not a book based on theory alone. Satish Modh has developed a personality indicator based on the Guna concept of Bhagvad Gita and has tested it on thousands of individuals. The book has impact of this study and it makes it more worthy.
Satish Modh, with a PhD in Strategy has wide experience in the corporate world as well as in the teaching profession at the premium institutes of Bharat. The learnings’ from both are clearly reflected in the structuring of chapters and overall book. Each chapter comes with “Action Plan”, which acts as a guide to the layman. It is a ‘must read’ for anyone who is lost in the fight of survival and is looking for a purpose in the life. After all Arjuna’s life was full of struggle but he had never lost his focus.

Unteshwari Mata Ka Mahant is a book written in Hindi by P B Lomio, Chief Secretary of Poor Christian Liberation Movement. The book is biography of Late Father Antony Fernandez.
The Book covers in details the conversion process in North Gujarat by missionaries. Camel being one of the important sources of livelihood, Mother Mary was re-christened as Goddess of Camel i.e. Unteshwari Mata. 107 acre land was procured from foreign funding and a Church was built. It was designed as per traditional Solanki Architectures found in Temples of Gujarat to confuse villagers.  Father Antony was posted at this Church. The book chronicles the sufferings of Father Antony by the hands of Church; for his effort in curbing the dirty and unethical practices in Church.
The book exposes, rather reinforces many facts about missionaries, some of them are :

  • Use of Hindus and Hindu religious places for their free stay in India and later for conversion.
  • Marrying Christian girls in Hindu families and then using them as a tool for converting whole family.
  • Names of NGO’s involved in conversion
  • Examples of caste based discrimination even after conversion.

The book also questions the recognition of Pope and his representative in Bharat by the Government. It calls it dual citizenship. Because of this, he explains; a Bharatiya Christian has to live like a slave to Church.
The book has excellent documentation of individual priest and nun who tried to fight the church and also mentions about various documents which expose the church. Most importantly, it gives the examples of failure of Hindus and Hindu organisations in not only curbing the conversion but also  not offering any  assistance to those who wanted to renounce Christianity and come back to their original faith i.e. Hinduism. This book is a ‘must read’ for every Hindu and Christian.                      —Sandeep Singh
