Intro: Bihar has again proved that chemistry for development is more important than arithmetic  of caste.

“Ye janata parivar gathbandhan nahi thagbandhan  parivar hai” said a co-traveller while having a casual discusssion with me on politics on my visit to Bihar and now I am realising why he said so.
The results of Vidhan Parishad elections has brought a massive let down for the so-called grand secular alliance which was hoping to halt the winning march of the BJP in Bihar. And on the other side, the result has brought a smile to the faces of BJP leaders and it will definitely work as morale booster for the party cadres. The results of the poll on 24 seats gave the BJP-led NDA 13 seats. The so-called  secular coalition of the RJD, JD (U) and the Congress finished with just 10 seats, down from the 16 they had.
One of the big takeaways for the BJP is the win of Sachinand Rai from Gopalganj Disrict, who defeated JD (U) candidate and deputy chairman of the Legislative Council Salim Parvez by a big margin of over 900 votes. BJP made a clean sweep in stronghold places of the RJD like Saran, Siwan and Gopalganj.  The results indicate that the Nitish-Lalu duo is not as formidable on the ground as it is on paper. This is an eye opener for Lalu and Nitish. Both should understand that a mere alliance between the two parties will not work.
Whether we agree or not, Biharis are very astute as far as electoral politics is concerned. The Council poll results are a reflection of the mood of people of Bihar and it indicates that the people of the State are not happy with the policies of the present government.  Bihar has again proved that chemistry for development is more important than arithmetic  of caste.                                                  —Nishant Kr. Azad

The Morale Booster

The important 243 seat Bihar Assembly elections is round the corner. Since this polls is going to be held after the Delhi Assembly polls so it has special significance. The BJP bite the dust in Delhi polls in spite of retaining its previous vote share due to the polarisation of votes in favour of the Aam Aadmi Party. After the Lok Sabha poll the BJP was winning all the State Assembly polls handsomely barring Jammu & Kashmir but it has performed below its expectation in Delhi so the forthcoming Assembly elections in Bihar has special attention not only for Bihar but also for the Assembly polls in 2016 in states of West Bengal, Assam, Kerala & Tamilandu too.
In Bihar, minority vote lays an important role particularly in Semanchal & Koshi region. Nearly one fourth seats in the State is dominated & decided by the voting of Muslims. The alliance among the RJD, JDU, INC & the NCP will stop the division of votes isone of the main mottos of the new found alliance. But the alliance is generating a new counter polarisation among the non-Muslims. We cannot rule out last moment polarisation of the Hindus due to the coalition of these players. This will be an important development in view of forthcoming Assembly polls.
The victory of the BJP/NDA in recently held Legislative Council polls is a big morale booster for the BJP/NDA cadres. The cadres of the BJP/NDA were on downslide after the assembly by-poll & the Delhi Assembly polls. The victory in the Legislative Council election give much needed impetus to the BJP/NDA cadres. Results of the Council elections given the BJP upper hand among the allies. Now the stake of the RLSP & LJP came down considerably due to the poor performance of these parties. The LJP won single among the four seats on which it contested while the RLSP was not able to open its account even on contesting on two seats. If the BJP would contest on these seats then the tally of the UPA alliance may came down.                                    —Abhay Kumar
