On cannot even imagine that punishment for not learning Quran can be deadly. Where religion teaches us to be kind and generous, a maulvi thrashed a 10 year old boy Mohammad Arham, who was not able to recite a chapter of Quran in a madrasa at Pilibhit Bypass Road, Bareilly on March 18. Arham’s teacher Maulvi Kari Mazhar initially ordered him to do 170 push-ups for his failed attempt. But, apparently, the maulvi felt that the boy’s inability to recite the chapter on Quran deserves a harsher punishment. Thereafter the enraged maulvi badly thrashed the boy with a stick. The maulvi also sat on boy’s chest and pulled his hair.
This horrifying punishment left the 10 year old half dead. The boy was hospitalised in a serious condition to a private nursing home. Doctors from the hospital said that the boy sustained serious injuries in his ribs and backbone due to which he is under observation.
The disquiet father and brother of the victim lodged an FIR against the maulvi and other two staff members, Irshad and Mohammad Aaris. Police Inspector Mohd Qasim said that, “We have filed a case against the maulvi and two other staff members of madrasa under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 323, 325, 326, 504 and 506 and investigation is on.” The followed investigation would be done by Inspector Ramchandra of Ruhelkhand Police Station. It’s been a week when the shocking incident took place, but till now the accused have not got arrested. The father of the victim is not at all satisfied with the kind of response he has got from the police. According to him, the police is not proceeding for the enquiry and is taking the case lightly.
Investigating officer of the case Ramchandra told Organiser that when police went to the madrasa for further enquiry the maulvi and the other two staff members fled from the scene. But he assured that the guilty would soon be apprehended, he also added that the Child Welfare Act will be applied in the case.
On March 24, Rabta-e-Madaris was organised at Darul Uloom, Deoband where Maulana Mahmood Madani, the former Rajya Sabha Member and Executive Member of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, India said that, “Maulvis at the Muslim institute should treat the students patiently and affectionately.”
