News Round-up : Hindu Sammelan in Nagaland
A Hindu Sammelan was organised in Dimapur, Nagaland, to commemorate the golden jubilee of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Senior member of the VHP’s Kendriya Margdarshak Mandal Swami Chinmayananda inaugurated the Sammelan by hoisting the flag. Keeping in view the less number of Hindus in Nagaland the organisation of the Sammelan is an important event. A large number of local people attended the Sammelan.
Addressing the Sammelan Swami Chinmayananda applauded the strong willpower and commitment of the Hindus in Nagaland to protect their Hindu identity and traditions even in opposite circumstances. Prior to beginning of the Sammelan Shri Suman Chand Bazari, chairman of the Reception Committee, welcomed the guests. North-East organising secretary of the VHP Shri Dinesh Chandra Upadhyaya spoke regarding the importance of the Hindu Sammelan and also the activities of the VHP. The speech by president of the Cachari Tribal Council Shri SK Kemprai was also applauded. Heads of various temples and social and religious organisations were felicitated at the function. Artists from various groups presented traditional dances on the occasion.
A Matri Sammelan was also organised by the the Durga Vahini. Local women in good number attended the Sammelan. VHP general secretary Shri Champat Rai also addressed the gathering.
Senior Sangh worker and former Pracharak Jitendranath Joshi passed away on March 5. Born on April 4, 1930 he did electrical engineering and started working in Indian Airlines. Then he passed the UPSC exam and became a gazetted officer. He also contributed in research work of the DRDO. He left the government job in 1960 and became a Sangh Pracharak. He played an important role in expanding the Sangh work in Himachal Pradesh. He was also Bauddhik Pramukh of Delhi Prant for many years. He was associated with the Laghu Udyog Bharati, Sankalp, Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Yojna and Baba Saheb Apte Smarak Samiti. During Satyagraha in 1948 he was in jail for six months. He staged hunger strike in the jail itself seeking the status of political prisoner to the Sangh workers.
Jagdish Tripathi is no more
Senior Sangh Pracharak and editor of Hindu Chetna, a fortnightly magazine of the VHP, Jagdish Tripathi passed away in Delhi on March 12. He was 80. Born in 1936 in Almora, he became a swayamsevak in 1946 and then a Sangh Pracharak in 1956 after completing graduation. He played a key role in expansion of the Sangh work in Puranpur, Shahjipur, Eta, Shamli, Ghaziabad Rampur of Uttar Pradesh and Srinagar in Uttarakhand. Then he was shifted to Tejpur in Assam. He was the Vibhag Pracharak in Bardhman and Kolkata Karyalaya Pramukh. He also worked as an associate of Bhaurao Deoras from 1984 to 1990. Then he worked with the Uttaranchal Utthan Parishad, Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, Lokbahrati and Vishwa Samvad Kendra Almora. He was shifted to the VHP in 2000 where he initially looked after the Dharmacharya Sampark work in Haridwar and Vrindavan. He became editor of Hindu Chetna in 2006. He suffered brain haemorrhage on March 12 and passed away the same day. He was well versed in Bengali, Marathi, Hindi, Kumauni and Punjabi.
